What Makes Our Productions Different

Attention to Detail

The difference between an okay video and a professional-quality production is in the fine details. Setting the lights just right for your face. Gently processing your voice to sound more powerful, calming, or listenable. Building and decorating a scene to set the right mood. These and a myriad of other physical, technical and creative details all add up, big time. We notice those nuances and we’re here to get everything dialed in for you.

Audio Can Make or Break the Video

Sound makes a huge difference in how you come across on video. But somehow many video producers struggle with audio quality. Brendan’s production experience began first with audio. As a musician in high school, he learned the basics of recording instruments and voices and he’s continued to build on that since 1998, working in public/college radio, a major-market commercial radio station, and live sound. Brendan also worked as production sound mixer for short films and documentaries. Music fans should check out the live music video series at BPM Live Sessions.

Direction & Performance Coaching

Being comfortable and confident is important on both sides of the camera. Collaborating with Brendan and his crew on a shoot is a calm experience where we coach you on your body language and positioning, your vocal delivery and how to better connect with your viewers. Looking into a tiny black circle (camera) doesn’t always feel as natural as speaking to a human, but we can bridge that gap. We pride ourselves on being able to help people relax, compose themselves and deliver the their best performance to the camera and their audience.

Nervousness and tension are contagious. The director’s nerves get passed on to the on-camera talent, and then their nerves get passed on to the viewers. That makes for an uncomfortable experience for everyone and unfortunately means your viewers may not act on your message or ever watch your videos again. That’s why we run our shoots with a touch of humor and an abundance of zen.

Constant Professional & Creative Development

We owe much of our skill sets to the Internet and our urge to create. We’re always watching training videos and updating our knowledge of current technologies, trends and equipment. Something that helps keep Brendan inspired is the wide range of artistic pursuits he keeps up. Photography, performing and recording music, shooting and editing video, designing studio setups, or just building something at home with his hands. The joy comes from the variety of experiences, and the skill sets all overlap and play into each other.

Background

After learning in a classic newsroom production environment in college, Brendan’s live broadcast career officially began in 2004 when he ran the daily live streaming production for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. These performances were a wide variety of music, dance and multimedia pieces streamed with the best tool of that era, RealNetworks.

Brendan’s bachelors degree is in Multimedia Production Technology, combining audio and video production with journalism, advertising, and storytelling. He learned this industry hands-on in a television studio similar to the one in Will Ferrel’s Anchorman movies. With other students, he produced a weekly nightly news broadcast for the community. Brendan was also very active in college radio, serving as the Commercial Director and hosting several shows. This foundation has led him through a 20-year production career with various roles including audio specialist, voiceover performer, photographer, cinematographer, video editor, and technical director.
